Welcome to Indian Institute of Jewelry Manufacturing. Diamond Grading is a 2 months course designed for the students aspiring to become Diamond Grader or Assorter to wish to develop their career into Diamond Industry.The course includes training the students to differentiate between real diamonds and artificial diamonds, assort the diamonds according to its cut, carat, color and clarity and giving them accurate grades. Individuals working as assorter have to separate polished diamonds and group them into lots having similar characteristics and reject which are not as per required quality. It is done by looking at the diamond through an eye glass under light and requires experience in spotting similar type of diamonds. Each diamond is assessed according to its characteristics of cut, carat, color and clarity.

Personal Attributes

  • Good eyesight and vast experience in order to judge the quality of each diamond
  • It also requires high level of concentration and patience
  • An assorter is expected to have integrity in dealing with diamonds

Factors & characteristics of the diamond.Necessity of diamond grading. Focus on Indian or international Market for export and local Consumption in studded jewelry of the diamond.Studying polished diamond and its facets using loop and gemoscope and hand practice with diamonds using tweezers. Practicing Sieving. Understanding Diamond’s Anatomy and different facets of diamonds. Examine and study the cut of the diamond. Study the clarity in diamonds and grade it accordingly on the basis of different inclusions. Study of color grading, Analysis of a color of the Diamond & its effect on diamond grading/value. Grade diamonds according to standard system on basis of 4Cs and Valuation.
